Why You’ll Want to Be Wearing This WASP-y Classic Come Next Spring

By Kristin Anderson

If madras sounds about as fresh in 2015 as lobster thermidor, then take heart: The WASP-y mainstay (madras, not the dish) is getting some much-needed new life, courtesy of the top designers in the biz. The summery plaid turned up in spades in the Resort and Spring ’16 men’s offerings, propositions that offered a winning alternative to teaming the print with Sperrys and your Vineyard Vines. Take, for example, Raf Simons’ structured peplumed minis at Dior’s Bubble Palace fete, or Rosetta Getty’s deliciously slouchy head-to-toe look. Menswear options were no less novel, like MSGM’s robe coat or—yes, Raf again—Simons’ painted-on toppers and matching head scarves.
